But what of the man behind the myth, the deeply troubled, conflicted, and ultimately tragic individual who endured enormous personal obstacles and setbacks. The President who inherited a nation at the moment of its greatest crisis had to constantly grapple with and overcome daunting personal challenges and tragedies.
