How American Blues and R&B Jump-Started The British Invasion Tell a Friend about this Course

American blues and rhythm & blues— as well as the American Folk-Blues Festival, an annual tour of Western and Eastern Europe by American blues musicians—inspired young British listeners and musicians. In 1964, American blues and rhythm & blues was exported back to the U.S.A. in the form of the “British Invasion” by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Animals, and many other young bands. We will listen to recordings from the American Folk-Blues Festival as well as the British Invasion, and examine the history of the conquest of America and its young record buyers by these British mop-tops.
