Not a Scientist: How Politicians Mistake, Misrepresent and Utterly Mangle Science Tell a Friend about this Course

Candidates for the 2016 presidential campaign referred to climate change as a "hoax," called Darwin's evolutionary theory the work of the devil, suggested vaccines cause autism - despite findings to the contrary - and brought into question other scientific knowledge that has long been considered factual by the scientific community. Dave Levitan, a journalist who focuses on an array of scientific topics, and especially their intersection with policy and politics, joins us to share highlights of his new book, "Not a Scientist: How Politicians Mistake, Misrepresent, and Utterly Mangle Science." He will expose some of the deceptive arguments that have been put forth by our leaders over the years when scientific findings haven't cooperated with political agendas, and reveal the real science behind some of the soundbites from our elected nonscientists. (Copies of "Not a Scientist" will be available for sale.)
