Civil War or Civil Rights: From Mississippi and the Deep South to a New National Conversation Tell a Friend about this Course

John Whiteside discusses and expands on his experiences as a young FBI Agent posted to the Mississippi Delta in the early 1970s in the wake of the horrific hate crimes of the '60s. As described in his book, "Cypress Shade: A True Crime FBI Memoir," Whiteside will reflect on experiences during this tense period in U.S. history that further shaped the civil rights movement and forever changed his life. Efforts towards civil rights from the Civil War to his time in the Delta will be presented, as well as current conflicts that have placed a spotlight on racial equality and issues of law enforcement and given rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.
