Great Writers/Great Works: Eudora Welty’s The Golden Apples Tell a Friend about this Course
Eudora Welty has been variously described as one of the greatest women writers, one of the greatest Southern writers and one of the greatest short story writers in the US literary tradition. Join us for a discussion of her cycle of interrelated stories, The Golden Apples. Often compared to James Joyce’s The Dubliners and Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio, Welty’s story cycle combines a detailed depiction of mid-twentieth century social and economic conditions in Mississippi with references to literary motifs and traditions drawn from the classical Western literary tradition.
