Hudson Valley Art Adventure: Dia, Beacon, Storm King Art Center
Start your day with a guided tour of Dia described as a “must see on the contemporary art circuit.” The Museum features vast open spaces showcasing monumental world-class artwork, including installations by Warhol, Flavin and Serra. Some of the most significant artists of the last half century are represented in this extraordinary former Nabisco box printing factory perched on the banks of the Hudson. Lunch is on your own in Beacon, called the “hippest” town in the Hudson Valley where you can explore galleries, boutiques, antique shops and dining destinations. Then travel to the Storm King Art Center, one of the world’s leading sculpture parks, known for the harmonious yet dramatic interaction between its sculptures and the landscape. Take a guided tour and then explore, on your own, the collection of modern, monumental art works exhibited to glorious advantage on 400 acres of fields and woodlands. No two visits are alike since the appearance of the sculptures is affected by changes in the light and weather. The permanent collection includes works by Calder, Moore and Noguchi.
