Living on the Lower East Side in 1916
Join us as we step back in time and explore how immigrants balanced work, family and their culture. Drop in on an actor portraying 14-year-old, Victoria Confino, who lived at 97 Orchard Street in 1916, to hear about the immigrant experience in an intimate setting. We will tour her apartment, ask her questions about her life, and get a unique perspective on adjusting to life on the Lower East Side when it was the most densely populated place in the world. We will also visit the Levine family's garment workshop and the Rogarshevskys' Sabbath table at the turn of the 20th century. After lunch on your own, we will take a walking tour to see tenements, houses of worship, civic and social building reflecting the multi-ethnic immigrant experience of the Lower East Side and its current upscale transformation.
