Brief History of American Ideas Tell a Friend about this Course

Explore several ideas that have continued to influence U.S. thinking: Puritanism, both its historical roots and its lasting impact on American attitudes; the Enlightenment and the founding of the American Republic; Romanticism's connection to the characterisitics of American democracy and individualism; Darwinism, its social impact and negative reactions to it; and liberal and conservative thought in the 20th and 21st centuries.
