Postmodernism in Literature, Art, & Film Tell a Friend about this Course

Artist, novelist, and puppet-show satirist Zimmerman discusses postmodernism in the visual and literary arts, revealing the paradoxes and platitudes of the movement that emerged in the 50s (or 20s or 1850s) and has outlived rock-and-roll, abstract painting, and Ren and Stimpy. “Just for that, I’m never gonna die”. Probe literary innovators like Pynchon, Barth, and David Foster Wallace to uncover oodles of instances where form precedes content. Make the appropriate connections to Dada and Pop in painting, drag in excerpts from the the hilarious on-film postmodern lectures of anti-idealogue Slavoj Zizek and screen short films of Peter Greenaway.
